RES SPONSORS OPEN ECO HOMES EVENT IN CAMBRIDGE TO ENCOURAGE ENERGY EFFICIENCY
RES has become an official sponsor of the Open Eco Homes Event 2014, an initiative organised by the charity Cambridge Carbon Footprint to inspire and encourage greater energy efficiency.
Eighteen homes in and around Cambridge will be opening their doors on Sunday 14th and Saturday 20th September to show what can be achieved with solar panels, green roofs, wood-burning stoves, ground source heat pumps, wall insulation, in-home electricity generation and many other measures. Energy efficiency improvements on show will fit a wide range of budgets, from simple DIY to professional installations. The open days are followed by a series of five practical events demonstrating how to put inspiration into practice.
The event is now in its fifth year and RES decided to support Open Eco Homes 2014 in recognition of how regionally important Cambridgeshire has become within its UK project portfolio.
David Cox, RES’ Head of Development – England, explains:
“RES has a strong presence in the area, with Wadlow Wind Farm already operational in South Cambridgeshire, Woolley Hill Wind Farm due for completion in early 2015 and Wryde Croft near Peterborough about to enter construction. In parallel with developing more renewable energy projects like these, the UK needs to encourage more efficient use of the energy we generate in order to tackle climate change and reduce our carbon footprint. We were delighted to be approached by this initiative in Cambridge and we hope that it inspires people to embrace a different approach to energy usage.”
As one of the most cost effective forms of low carbon electricity generation, onshore wind is already playing a very important role in helping to bring down the cost of UK consumers’ electricity bills. With onshore wind set to be the lowest cost form of any new electricity generation by 2020, the benefits for UK electricity consumers of onshore wind will continue into the foreseeable future. In combination, Wadlow, Wryde Croft and Woolley Hill will be capable of generating sufficient green electricity to meet the annual demands of more than 38,000 homes.*
