AUGUST 2015: FIRST TURBINE GOES UP AT WRYDE CROFT

Erection of the first turbine at Wryde Croft Wind Farm was completed on 24 August 2015, less than two months from the point at which the components began to arrive on site. Each of the wind farm's 13 turbines measures 100m to the tip of the blade at its highest point.

Turbine construction begins with lifting the base tower section into place and fixing it using bolts to the 'collar' on top of the concrete foundation. Two further tower sections are then added before the nacelle (which houses the gearbox), hub and blades are added.

Photos recording progress on site are available on our construction updates page.

When it becomes fully operational in 2016, Wryde Croft Wind Farm will be capable of generating up to 26MW, which is sufficient to meet the annual average needs of around 15,000 UK homes.
